What is Biaxin and how is it used?
Biaxin is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of many different bacterial infections, including stomach ulcers and Helicobacter pylori. Biaxin may be used alone or with other medications.
Biaxin is an antibiotic.
It is not known if Biaxin is safe and effective in children younger than 6 months of age.
What are the possible side effects of Biaxin?
Biaxin may cause serious side effects including:
- severe stomach pain,
- diarrhea containing blood,
- fast or pounding heartbeats,
- fluttering in your chest,
- shortness of breath,
- sudden dizziness,
- confusion,
- spinning sensation,
- loss of appetite,
- upper stomach pain,
- tiredness,
- dark urine,
- clay-colored stool,
- yellowing of eyes and skin (jaundice),
- little or no urine,
- swelling in your feet or ankles,
- feeling tired,
Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.
The most common side effects of Biaxin include:
- stomach pain,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- diarrhea,
- unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth,
Tell the doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Important Administration Instructions
BIAXIN Filmtab and BIAXIN Granules may be given with or without food.
BIAXIN XL Filmtab should be taken with food. Swallow BIAXIN XL Filmtab whole; do not chew, break or crush BIAXIN XL Filmtab.
Adult Dosage
The recommended dosages of BIAXIN Filmtab and BIAXIN XL Filmtab for the treatment of mild to moderate infections in adults are listed in Table 1.
EXPERT ADVICE FOR CLARITHROMYCIN
- Your doctor has prescribed Clarithromycin to cure your infection and improve your symptoms.

Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection to come back and harder to treat.

Take it 1 hour before or two hours after food.

Do not take antacids 2 hours before or after taking Clarithromycin.

Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should stop when your course is complete. Inform your doctor if it doesn’t stop or if you find blood in your stools.

Stop taking Clarithromycin and inform your doctor immediately if you develop an itchy rash, swelling of the face, throat or tongue or breathing difficulties while taking it.

There is no firm evidence to suggest that the use of Clarithromycin will cause infertility in males or females.
